We are down to our last practice in St Joe. Let’s hope tomorrow is as fun and entertaining as today. We had a little bit of everything. Drills, scrimmage, injury scares and drama to end practice at the goal line. As usual I snapped a ton of pictures. Head inside to see what I’m talking about.
Offensive Walk Thru
-Worked quite a bit of play action at the goal line. Had the full back sneaking to the flat to make the grab after the fake. Expect to see this at least once vs the Rams if in this situation.
-Tony Moeaki was working a lot in the back of the endzone on drags. If full back is covered he’s option 2.
Special Teams
-Worked on WR blocking gunners and stopping the ball from going into the endzone on punts.
-Tamba Hali and Derrick Johnson worked on their hands once again today, They put in more work than anybody.
Offensive Line Drills
-Jack Bicknell Jr with the interior OL and Steven Smith with the offensive tackles.
-Bicknell was preaching punch in his drills. ” You have to, have to, have to get a punch”. They worked down block with a big punch, then picking up blitzing linebacker to opposite side and ushering him up field. Rodney Hudson was working on his shotgun snaps when he wasn’t involved with a rep.
-Smith was working the tackles on kick slide and getting underneath the defenders pads and turning them.
-Worked on zone blocking lanes in groups of left side and right side.
-Watched the QBs throw to the running backs and wide receivers behind this drill. Shane Bannon showed off some stone hands and Junior Hemingway was looking smooth running routes.
Scrimmage
-Tyson Jackson sets the edge with Eric Winston attempting to block him. Forces Peyton Hillis back inside for zero gain.
-Matt Cassel feels the heat. Moves around pocket to find Kevin Boss for short gain. Jovan Belcher nearly rips Boss’s helmet off trying to make the stop,.
-Against the sub package defense, Cassel throws a quick slant to Jonathan Baldwin. Jacques Reeves comes over the top to the knockdown. Nice work by Reeves.
-1st team defense makes first team offense punt.
-Ricky Stanzi throws under pressure, slightly behind Jamar Newsome but catchable. He dropped it.
-Andy Studebaker comes up to stop Shaun Draughn in the hole. Brandon Siler is pumped and gives Studebaker a smack on the shoulder pads.
-Bad snap by Lucas Patterson. Stanzi tries to fit one over the top of Reeves to Maneri, but slightly underthrown. Incomplete.
-2nd defense makes 2nd offense go 3 and out.
-Brady Quinn to Nate Eachus up the gut for 2. Faked the reverse on the play.
-Quinn faked the handoff to Eachus. Finds Brandon Kinnie to the left. Kinnie comes up with a great grab.
-Eachus to the left. Won’t be brought down.
-Quinn with hard count. Throws over the middle to Jake O’Connell who drops an easy one.
-Beautiful ball thrown by Quinn to Jeremy Horne. Horne jumped up and high pointed the ball to make a great catch.
-David Mims puts Edgar Jones on his back in pass protection.
-Screen to Draughn, but Cory Greenwood sniffs it out for no gain.
-Dexter Heyman with a tipped ball out of the QBs hand. Came on the LB blitz.
-Ryan Succop knocks in a FG for the only points of the session.
