Chiefs Training Camp News and Notes: 8/6/2012

August 6th, 2012

Another beautiful day at Chiefs Training Camp.

KCCD Editor: Jason Madson

Today’s camp was about as empty from an attendance standpoint as any we have had. The weather was nice, even though the bleachers make it seem 20 degrees hotter. The Chiefs showed a few new lineups today and I mainly watched the WRs in drills. Head inside for today’s Chiefs Training Camp report.

Offensive Walk Thru

-The offense worked on a lot of misdirection vs different fronts in today’s session.

-Worked on hurry up as well. Have a certain word they yell out when wanting to get on the line.

-QB depth chart in walk thru: Cassel with 1s, Quinn with 2s and Stanzi with 3s.

-Had a few reverses and fake reverses to Devon Wylie.

-Newly acquired Patrick Dimarco and Nate Eachus worked as the fullback. Eachus ran a lot with the 1st unit.

-Jonathan Baldwin dropped and gave us 10 pushups during walk thru, maybe he was bored?

QB Drills

-Worked on turning while running and finding the target.

-Alex Tanney looked goofy throughout these drills. He was tripping all over himself.

-Cassel and Quinn looked smooth during these drills.

-Stanzi gets a loud ovation during the drill, even though half of his throws were wobbly ducks.

Defensive Linemen Work

-Dontari Poe, Ropati Pitoitua and Jerrell Powe worked with Anthony Pleasant off to the side during special teams drills.

-Pleasant had a pad strapped to his chest and the 3 DL were hitting him off the snap. Poe launched him back a good 5 yards.

WR Drills

-WR Coach Nick Sirianni is fun to watch and listen to when he’s coaching. Really gets on his guys in a good or bad way. Take a trip over to the WR drills to check him out.

-The WR worked on subtracting the rounding off of their routes and getting off the line in man coverage. Heard a ton of praise for Zeke Markshausen and Jamar Newsome during this portion.

QBs and WR working together

-Worked on corner routes and stop and go’s.

-Quinn struggled with overthrows a few times in this drill.

-Josh Bellamy got a little cocky and dropped an easy pass.

-Devon Wylie getting praise for exploding out of his breaks.

-Noticed a big difference in velocity between Quinn and Cassel during this drill. Quinn zips it around the field.

-Bellamy works on looking the ball into his hands.

-Running the stop and go route, Markshausen and Wylie look uncoverable. Wylie looks like a more natural pass catcher though.

-Terrance Copper with a lazy drop.

-Nick Sirianni doesn’t stop coaching his guys. This Chiefs coaching staff is always coaching up their guys.

-Cassel with a beauty to Jamar Newsome on the go route.

-QB Coach Jim Zorn tells the WR to stop complaining about the sun, “Cause it ain’t going anywhere”.
