Kansas City Chiefs Training Camp: Thoughts on Every Player

August 6th, 2012

This Chiefs camp is loaded with talent.

KCCD Editor: Jason Madson

Last week I ran my Projected 53 man roster for the Chiefs. This week, I wanted to give my thoughts on every player at Chiefs Training Camp. Some will be good, some will be bad and others won’t have much of an opinion developed yet. In the comments, we’d love to see some of your thoughts on any players you have seen at camp.

Quarterbacks

Matt Cassel- Most consistent QB in camp, and that’s not saying much. The obvious starter going into the season, he has struggled with accuracy and decision making so far in camp.

Brady Quinn- Still has a great arm, wish he’d us it more. Has a terrible tendency to take off running when he feels the least bit of pressure.

Ricky Stanzi- Has either looked really good or really bad. Some of his throws make you scratch your head and ask what was he thinking? He’s a little like Brett Favre in that way.

Alex Tanney- Disappointed because he hasn’t shown a single trick shot yet.Looks good on short throws, but his footwork is a disaster.

Running Backs

Jamaal Charles- Definitely back to his old self. Showing off with his cuts and instant burst. He just glides when he touches the ball. Huge weapon in 2012.

Peyton Hillis- He’s a bull! Have watched him play on tv many times, but that doesn’t do his size and power justice. Going to be a great compliment to Jamaal.

Cyrus Gray- Will contribute in many ways, if he makes the team. Has excelled at most everything in camp so far. Special teams will be his biggest chance for success in 2012.

Shaun Draughn- Might’ve bulked up from last year. Can add a little wiggle to his running as well. Will be a difficult cut.

Nate Eachus- Runs so low to the ground, makes him difficult to tackle. Has what looks like break away speed and can catch the football. Might be a little like Danny Woodhead?

Shane Bannon- Blocking back that has touched the ball very little so far in camp. Has sat out 3 practices with an injury.

Tight Ends

Tony Moeaki- Looks like he’s back to his pre-injury form.Haven’t seen him used as much as the other TEs. Gameday will be telling.

Kevin Boss- Great addition. He’s been the best TE in camp so far. No struggles getting off the line or blocking, but has dropped a couple easy passes.

Steve Maneri- Big blocking TE that is a former offensive tackle.I think him being position versatile helps in his making the roster. Has improved as a receiver.

Jake O’Connell- Has dropped quite a few balls so far in camp.Think he was Todd Haley’s guy, so he might be on his way out of KC.

Tim Biere- Local kid has looked good as a receiver, but gets muscled at the line of scrimmage. Has a couple easy drops.
