As usual, we are going to let you know who we are watching this week in the first round of bowl games. The Chiefs need help all over their roster and we will point them in the direction of prospects to check out in each game. Today we have two games on the schedule with very few prospects to consider, but there are a handful.

New Mexico Bowl

Arizona vs Nevada (ESPN)

Nevada has one player in which I like a lot, Strong Safety Duke Williams. He’s a different type than Kendrick Lewis, he’s a tackling machine. Averaging nearly 85 tackles per season over the past three years. This is a huge area of need for the Chiefs, with Lewis constantly injured and the failure that is the Abe Elam signing. A Strong Safety must be selected in the 2013 draft. Duke WIlliams could very well be that guy.

Williams is another Safety prospect that doesn’t excel in coverage, but he can make plays here and there. He’s in the lineup to stop the run.

Arizona has a converted safety playing linebacker named Marquis Flowers. He is a junior, but is one to keep an eye on. One Wildcat that I like is fullback Taimi Tutogi. He’s a throwback, dent the defenders facemask in kind of blocker. Picture a more talented Boomer Grigsby.

Famous Idaho Potato Bowl

Toledo vs Utah State (ESPN)

David Fluellen and Bernard Reedy are talented junior prospects for the Toledo Rockets. Reedy, a WR, is very fast. It shows in the return game and breaking away in the open field. Look for him to make some plays today. Fluellen is a big running back, weighing nearly 220 lbs. He could be in the mix to replace Peyton Hillis. These two will be putting in their draft board paperwork following this game. If they like what they hear, they’ll be available.

Utah State has a similar duo of prospects in RB Kerwynn Williams and WR Matt Austin. Kerwynn is a jack of all trades talent. He is a weapon in the run, pass and return games. He’ll impact today’s game in a big way. He might remind you a bit of Dexter McCluster in this way. Matt Austin is a 6th year senior that won’t wow you in many ways, but he’ll make the tough catch.
