New reports are coming out that Dwayne Bowe and the Chiefs are working on a long-term contract that will keep Bowe in Kansas City. Ian Rapoport of NFL network broke the story this evening.

This tells me a few things:

1. The Chiefs are trying to keep their important players in house.

2. They realize what the receiving corps is like outside of Bowe. If it were serviceable, they would have let him walk.

3. The organization realizes what Bowe has meant to the team the past few seasons. He has performed as one of the team’s top offensive playmakers, even with questionable quarterback play.

If it’s any indication, we can probably expect some sort of move to be made on Dustin Colquitt and Branden Albert. With Bowe likely to be locked up for the long-term, the Chiefs will have the option to use the franchise tag on Albert instead. In light of this news, we are very likely to see all three of the Chiefs key free agents stay in Kansas City next year, and likely the future.

John Dorsey is already proving himself as Chiefs GM.

UPDATE: Now reports are starting to surface that the Chiefs have contacted Branden Albert’s reps for an extension as well.

  1. Nate says:

This is smoke by Bowe’s agent imo. I can’t see the Chiefs trying to re-sign Bowe. He is the most overrated player in the NFL and his agent is trying to make it sound like KC wants him.

  2. Luke J or Bust says:

Albert. hes good but not the elite LT we need…unless Ried has a trick up his sleeve to replace Lilja with him. Joeckel STILL is the answer to “who we Pick first?” as DeCastro was the answer we blew last year.
I am hoping they keep bowe…I did get his
