Well they made us wait it out until the last possible second. The 3:00 tag deadline came and went leaving us believing we had no hope, and then…. BAM!

Bowe: 5 years

Colquitt: 5 years

Albert: Franchise Tag.

This is exactly what I was hoping for. John Dorsey and Andy Reid (and their staffs) have done a phenomenal job going into March 9 where teams can begin negotiating with Free Agents (otherwise known as the legal tampering period). Free Agents deals (and the Alex Smith trade deal) can be finalized on March 12, and our Chiefs are in great position. We have our QB, we kept our Pro Bowl level WR and LT, and we kept the guy who has been our team MVP since the Herm Edwards years. The Chiefs still have several needs, but with the moves they have already made, we have some freedom in Free Agency. Here are several Free Agents I like at positions the Chiefs need a new starter at.

1.  CB Derek Cox, Jags – Cox is younger player at 26. He’s a very talented player,  but he has some injury concern.

2.  CB Brent Grimes, Falcons – Grimes is coming off of a nasty achilles injury, but if he can get back to  100% there is no doubt that he’s a very good player.

3.  CB Sean Smith, Dolphins – We’ve already had rumors of him being in contact with KC, and he’ definitely a very talented player. He disappears at times. Must work on consistency.

Other possible CBs: Keenan Lewis, Chris Houston.

4.  ILB Danelle Ellerbe, Ravens – I’m sure the Ravens would like to keep him, but if he hits the market, I’d at least see what kind of money he’s asking. He’d be a great addition to DJ in the middle of our defense.

5.  ILB Brad Jones, Packers – Jones played great filling in for Desmond Bishop and he might be my favorite FA fit for our team. Putting him next to DJ would be fantasic.
