Kansas City Chiefs Scouting Report: Week 3 – Eagles

Thursday, September 19th, 2013

Dontari Poe will be a huge factor in tonight’s game, what else should we look for vs the Eagles? (Photo:

The Eagles present a different matchup than they have seen this season. A strong run game v. the vertical compliment that is Mike Vick’s arm. Versus the Jags…the Chiefs had to worry about defending a limited area. MJD’s inside running, Gabbert’s right side throwing…they succeeded. Against the Cowboys…key was the vertical passing game, took some lumps, got it right in 2nd half…came away with a narrow victory.

Football is a game of matchups…what I am going to attempt to do is bring you those matchups, and where those matchups play in the Chiefs favor.  This Report is broken up into 4 categories…The Pass, The Run, and how the Chiefs defend it.

This week the Chiefs face the 2nd best passing game from a year ago.  It’s an offense that get yards by the chunk…and can score anywhere with the run or passing game.  Defensively this is a group that can give up yards in the pass game, but do well not to get beat deep.

What sticks out for me leading up to this, is the contrast between the clubs.  Both teams are built to exploit each other.  The Chiefs with their outside run game and ball control passing…The Boys with their ability to spread the Chiefs out, which has been issue for this defense.

So lets get to it….

Well, this is it. The preseason is over and teams have until 5:00 p.m. CT on Saturday to cut the roster down to 53 players. I’m sure there will be some surprise cuts and players to make the team, it always happens.

Tonight is the final audition for a lot of the players on the roster’s bubble. Before it is played, here is my stab at who will make it and which player’s bubbles will pop:

In a rare player-for-player trade, the Chiefs and 49ers traded their recent draft busts at wide receiver. While not foreseen, this move comes as little surprise as both players struggled to fit in with their respective teams.

Read on to hear my thoughts on the Baldwin-Jenkins trade.

Kansas City Chiefs: Previewing Preseason Game Two

Friday, August 16th, 2013

Welcome back to Arrowhead.

KCCD Editor: Jason Madson

Chiefs fans might be feeling a bit of deja vu. Week one of the 2012 preseason, the Chiefs offense and defense looked incredible. Fans were talking playoffs and emotions were high. Those feelings were crushed as the season began, leading to a 2-14 record and the first overall pick.

Fast forward to today, the feelings after week one of the preseason are similar. The 2013 version might be a bit more legit, though. The sample size only includes a handful of plays for each side of the ball, but the results were undeniable. Defensively, the Chiefs shutdown one of the most explosive offenses in the NFL. The offense was efficient, leading to 10 points.

Week two of the preseason schedule brings the San Francisco 49ers  to Arrowhead Stadium. A much tougher test for the Chiefs starters, across the board.

Here are a few thoughts on tonight’s game and a handful of players to watch, for various reasons:
