Athleticism: Wheaton has deep speed to separate down the field and be a vertical threat in the NFL. On film he consistently ran past corners and safeties when they didn’t get hands on him and was able to make a lot of plays down the field. His vertical speed was confirmed with a 40 yard dash time of 4.45 seconds. Despite his nice deep speed, Wheaton’s greatest athletic asset is his quickness and acceleration.

Jamar Taylor, Cornerback, Boise State
Athleticism/Physical Traits: Taylor is a very talented athlete overall. He has fluid hips to open up and run with receivers on vertical routes without losing stride. Taylor has great deep speed which showed on film as I never saw a receiver beat him deep and was confirmed with a 40 yard dash time of 4.39. I worry a little bit about Taylor’s overall length as he has short arms which can be an issue in press coverage, but it never appeared to hamper him on film. Taylor also has blitzed on occasion, showcasing explosive short area burst which also shows up when he breaks on the ball in zone coverage. Taylor’s height is just a bit below the cornerback average at just under 5’11”.

As we all know, the Chiefs have an empty spot next to Derrick Johnson. I addressed a couple free agents we could put there in my last article Jovan Belcher, while a solid run defender, was a liability on in the passing game. That can all change with one player.
How would you like a Linebacker that can cover better than many safeties and is as physical against the run as most 250lb guys? Basically imagine Derrick Johnson but faster and a little more physical. One last thing: He’s 6 foot tall and only weighed 230 during the season. Would that be a problem for you?
So what does Arthur Brown do well? It would be easier to tell you what he doesn’t do well, but I’ll attempt to tell you what Arthur Brown will bring to your football team.

Athleticism:
+ Sideline to Sideline speed. Has range to cut off receivers and running backs trying to reach the outside.
+ Can jump to disrupt and knock down balls in his passing lane as a rusher.
+ Has the speed, quickness, and change of direction ability to stick with wide receivers and tight ends downfield. (Glued to wide receiver in slot on double move vs. NC State)
+ Explosive in short areas. Can explode to ball carrier/passer and make the play.
-Not a powerful player. Needs to add strength in the NFL to take on blockers.
