The Kansas City Chiefs Are On The Clock…

Monday, December 31st, 2012

Could the Chiefs select a QB in the first round of the 2013 NFL Draft? It would be the first time since Todd Blackledge had his name called by the Chiefs in 1983. (Photo: US Presswire)

And KC Chiefs Draft has you covered.

With all the new traffic around here, we’d like to re-introduce our site and give you an idea of what to expect leading up to the NFL Draft. With the Chiefs having the top pick, we are going to be busy around here.

The Chiefs were awful this season. The biggest need (by far) is quarterback. With Pioli gone, the new GM will almost certainly use this pick to draft his own guy.

Smith was awesome this season. He completed 71 percent of his passes for 4,004 yards, 40 touchdowns, and only six interceptions. He started the year with monstrous performances but was cooled down against Texas Tech and Kansas State.

The 6-foot-3, 214-pounder has prototypical NFL size for quarterbacks. His skillset is what you look for in a franchise QB. He makes good reads and shows great vision. He has great accuracy, but his arm isn’t “elite” but is very good (but neither was Aaron Rodgers). Smith can also make plays with his feet. The biggest thing he needs to work on is his footwork, but that can be coached.

The Chiefs finally get their man.

With each passing week, the Chiefs loss totals continue to pile up. Kansas City was competitive in Pittsburgh this past Monday, and according to Romeo Crennel, that’s all you can ask for. You have to wonder what this team could be with a capable QB taking the snaps. This week, we again will focus on the QBs that are nearing the end of their senior seasons.

All the big names are out this week with Tyler Wilson, Matt Barkley, Geno Smith, EJ Manuel, Landry Jones, Mike Glennon, Collin Klein, Zac Dysert and Ryan Nassib. I will guarantee you that one of those passers will be a Chief after the draft, so pay attention. This week I’m headed to Syracuse vs Mizzou in Columbia. I’m a bigger fan of Orange QB Nassib than most, so I am looking forward to watching him closely.

We’ll discuss other positons too, so head inside and enjoy.

Why Matt Barkley Should Be The Chiefs Top Draft Target

The Kansas City Chiefs are the worst team in the NFL.

The 2 main reasons the Chiefs control this spot are that every quarterback on the roster is horrible and the coaching staff overall is completely inept (Jamaal Charles barely sees the field anymore). If the Chiefs are drafting 1st overall (we can only assume they will be), then Romeo Crennel and Scott Pioli are most likely both gone. In my opinion I believe Pioli has done a good job assembling a roster; however, his allegiance to Cassel and coaching hires have ultimately cost him his job.
