Kansas City Chiefs Training Camp: Roster Projection 2.0

After taking in Chiefs Camp practices over the last week, it has become easier to determine who is who. Without looking in the guide or even needing to see their number, each player has a different style or ability. Some players are there just to fill a roster spot, others have a legit shot to make the final roster. Here is who I like to make the Chiefs 53-man roster and 8-man practice squad:

The Best Inside Linebacker in America

Sitting around the TV on a Saturday discussing the finer points of your Friday night escapades and the intricacies of the 3-4 interior tackle gap control(O, wait, that’s probably just me and my friends), inevitably the word best spills over into the conversation.  Who is the best? Who is best quarterback, receiver, tackle etc.

But this year with players like Manti Te’o, Alec Ogletree and CJ Mosley single-handily dominating opposing offenses, a renaissance of “best” linebacker talk has spilled over into living-rooms, churches and bars (The last two are not mutually-exclusive for ND fans). ND fans are championing their Hawaiian Messiah Manti Te’o as the best thing since Charlie Weis decided to leave the Golden Corral and South Bend altogether.  Even Alabama fans are proclaiming that one of their defensive players might be one of the best in the country.

Kansas City Chiefs Fake Trade: Berry/Johnson for Spoon/Moore

Could you imagine Sean Weatherspoon in a Chiefs uniform? (Photo: operationsports)

Last night during the Falcons Broncos game I was watching Sean Weatherspoon and William Moore making numerous plays for the Atlanta defense. Since I was already frustrated as a Chiefs fan, I tweeted out that I would trade the ATL duo for Derrick Johnson and Eric Berry. I did a little statistical number crunching, and the pairs aren’t that far off. Head inside for my attempt to persuade you, even though I understand this trade will never happen.

Kansas City Chiefs Roster: Last 5 In, Last 5 Out

Cut down day is tomorrow in the NFL. With most of the league finishing up their preseason schedule tonight, it should be an interesting day on Friday. Who will get cut? Will it be a position of need for the Chiefs? If so, wiho will the Chiefs cut from their 53 man roster to make room?

All types of questions about the roster will be answered this weekend. For more on the Chiefs and who I feel are the last 5 on and the last 5 off, head inside.

Kansas City Chiefs Training Camp: Thoughts on Every Player

Monday, August 6th, 2012

This Chiefs camp is loaded with talent.

KCCD Editor: Jason Madson

Last week I ran my Projected 53 man roster for the Chiefs. This week, I wanted to give my thoughts on every player at Chiefs Training Camp. Some will be good, some will be bad and others won’t have much of an opinion developed yet. In the comments, we’d love to see some of your thoughts on any players you have seen at camp.

Kansas City Chiefs Player Interview: Dexter Heyman

How does Heyman fit into the Chiefs future? (Photo:

Kansas City is looking for somebody to take the spot next to Derrick Johnson in the worst way. Jovan Belcher was adequate in 2011, but nothing special. The team signed Brandon Siler last season in hopes that he would take the job, but an injury took his 2011 season before it started. Cory Greenwood is a young, small school player that the coaches seem to really like. The talent is either coming off injury or somewhat unproven next to DJ.

Many of the fans expected the Chiefs to grab an inside linebacker during April’s draft s well. They didn’t draft one, but they signed Dexter Heyman as an UDFA. He was the leader of Louisville’s defense last year. KCCD had the chance to ask Dexter a few questions recently:
