How did the Chiefs 2012 Draft Picks perform in their inaugural 2012 season?

The Chiefs will wrap up their 2012 preseason schedule against the Packers at Lambeau Field Thursday night. With the final cuts due Friday, this game will be the last chance many young players have to impress Kansas City’s coaching staff. As Jason wrote last week, there are some roster spots still up for grabs.
These roster battles won’t dominate the game’s headlines, however. For Chiefs fans, there’s only one goal tonight: don’t get hurt.

We heard it the entire off-season. We heard it the early stages of camp. But we aren’t hearing it as much anymore. This is the deepest the Chiefs have been in a long time. It was easy to say. After free agency and the NFL Draft, we had what looked like a very deep roster. One that could survive a few devastating injuries, unlike the 2011 season. Additions of key backups along the defensive line, secondary and quarterback in free agency. Depth at WR and offensive line in the draft. This team was built for the long haul. Then the injuries started to hit.

It’s been nearly 30 years since the Kansas City Chiefs selected an interior defensive lineman in the NFL Draft that worked out. Bill Maas, selected in the 1984 Draft was the last Chiefs pick to make an impact on the inside for the Chiefs. Sure, KC has had luck signing free agents, but most of the free agent pickups have been at the end of their careers. Selections in the Draft like Ryan Sims, Junior Siavii, Eddie Freeman and Alex Magee have put a sour taste in the fans mouths.

Today’s practice flew by. We had beautiful weather and a lot of action on the practice field. Surprised that there weren’t many fans in attendance today. There are only 2 days left, so if you haven’t been up to the MO West campus yet, I’d make the trip. Head inside for notes and some pictures from Tuesday’s camp practice.

What will you be looking for when the Chiefs and Cardinals square off tonight in the preseason opener?

Tonight is the night Chiefs fans have been looking forward to for months. It’s not a meaningful football game in the wins or losses sense, but there is so much that we can take from it. Although the starters won’t play more than a series or two, I want to see a few things from them. The rest of the game is where players will help or hurt their cause to make this team and order on the depth chart. To get ready for tonight’s game, head inside and check out a few things that I will be watching, based off my observations from Chiefs Training Camp.
