What the decisions made over the last week mean for the Chiefs going forward this offseason:

A lot has happened to this Chiefs roster in the last week or so.  First news broke that the Chiefs were trading for quarterback Alex Smith, then yesterday Dwayne Bowe and Dustin Colquitt were locked up to long term deals while Brandon Albert received the franchise tag as the sides continue to work on a long term deal.

These are huge moves for the organization that impact KC’s plans for the rest of the offseason.  We have our number 1 receiver and we have a very good starting left tackle, as well as our starting quarterback for next season and potentially longer.  These are huge franchise shaping decisions that will have major effects on what the front office chooses to do in free agency and in the draft.

Dwayne Bowe signed a new 5-year, $50 million deal, $24 million guaranteed, just minutes before the franchise tag deadline. This allowed Branden Albert to be tagged. A lot of Chiefs fans should be happy about this move.

Aside from Jamaal Charles, Dwayne Bowe is and has been the Chiefs most consistent offensive weapon over the past few seasons. The Chiefs made a very smart decision in locking up their best wideout for the long-term.

Read on to hear my thoughts on the Bowe deal.

Thursday, Ian Rapoport reported the Kansas City Chiefs were looking to re-sign WR Dwyane Bowe and LT Branden Albert. Most Chiefs fans took those reports and tried to read between the lines of what that meant for the 2013 NFL Draft.

LT Luke Joeckel, according to several NFL Draft analysts, is the No. 1 ranked player for the 2013 NFL Draft. Most fans believed that if the Chiefs did not re-sign Albert, they would then take Joeckel to replace him. What if the Chiefs signed Albert?

Kansas City Chiefs: Offseason Checklist

Tuesday, January 1st, 2013

There is a calm currently at Arrowhead, hopefully before a huge storm of changes.

KCCD Editor: Jason Madson

The 2012 season is in the rearview mirror. We know the Chiefs will have a new Head Coach and the number one overall pick. We don’t know who will be making the war room decisions on draft day though. Clark Hunt is taking his time deciding the future of his football team. Will Clark fire Pioli, keep him around or give him a broom and dust pan to earn that large paycheck?

This organization definitely needs to be cleaned from the top down. Whatever is decided, let’s just hope it is quick. The new staff needs time to develop a gameplan for the draft and free agency. Kansas City needs numerous upgrades for the starters and more depth. Check out my list and feel free to add your own or rearrange the order.
