The first round is in the books. With a ton of talent still on the board, let’s see how Day 2 could unfold. Here is my updated mock draft for rounds 2 & 3.

It’s been a while since I have released a new mock draft. What better time than the day before the real thing happens. Here are my visions on how the fist round could go, without trades.

The biggest splash of the NFL pre-season occurred when the Chiefs traded their 2013 second-round pick and a conditional 2014 draft pick for 49ers quarterback Alex Smith. The trade cannot become official until the league year starts, so any projections for the Chiefs are pure speculation. The Chiefs are not the only team dealing with a lot of movement from now until the new league year, and eventually the draft. This mock draft projects which free agents are likely to be retained when evaluating team needs. Clearly, we are dealing with many hypotheticals, and nothing is set in stone, so predicting the draft is very difficult at this time. Yet this makes it all the more intriguing. What occurs from now until the draft will cause many changes in everyone’s mock drafts. So let’s get to it.
At this point, I am not going to take into account any trades. However, many are likely to occur and could affect where a prospect is drafted.

Game: Pinstripe Bowl
Date: December 29, 2012
Teams: Syracuse vs West Virgina
Weather: Cold with snow
The weather for this game made it very difficult for scouting purposes. It was snowing the entire game and the field was partially covered in snow. With that said, I still like to watch and see how players perform when conditions aren’t the best. In the NFL your going to be playing into late December and early January, and it’s important to be able to perform in cold weather.

It seems to be a very popular opinion that Luke Joeckel is the player the Chiefs will select with the first pick in the draft. There is not a clear cut #1 player in this year’s draft, but this would be a player that could help the Chiefs out.
