When you refer to someone as a gambler it is because take on risks the average man would not engage in but also do not calculate the overall value of making such a move.  Scott Pioli is often referred to as a gambler.  I would be one of the first to dispute that.  The calculated decisions Scott makes on draft picks, free agent signings and long term contracts are not that of a gambler.  The types of choice Scott makes are missing a key component of the previously mentioned gambler definition.   Scott does not discount value at the time of a decision, and actually uses value as one of the heaviest weighted determinants while making that choice.

The value of signing a player long term compared to letting that player go and how that affects a team short term and long term plans can be very different.  The value of drafting a player must be carefully weighted because he may not be deemed the best player available at a position of need, and how can you discount what kind of off the field issues that player may have?  So many moving parts to the evaluation process.  What goes in to Scott’s decision making process and why is he not a gambler?  He does not make the decisions in a vacuum and the common onlooker may not fully grasp the reasoning for such decisions.

Chiefs Training Camp News and Notes: 7/31/2012

Day 5 at Chiefs Training Camp was a night practice on Spratt Memorial Stadium.

The first and only night practice of Chiefs Training Camp, also had the largest attendance.  Spratt Memorial Stadium was packed, the temp was starting to cool down and we had the voice of the Chiefs Mitch Holthus on the loudspeaker. This was a fun night. The Chiefs spent a ton of time working special teams in this session, but the crowd enjoyed watching the returners field the punts. I made quite a few notes and took even more pictures, check em out after the jump.

Chiefs Training Camp News and Notes: 7/30/2012

Welcome to Day 4 of Chiefs Training Camp.

KCCD Editor: Jason Madson

Monday’s practice had the largest crowd I have seen at any of the days of camp. Fans enjoyed a cooler day in St Joe as we had a nice cloud cover to keep the temps low. The play on the field got most fans excited as there were some big plays during this session.

-Practice started like it does everyday. We had some individual drills and offensive and defensive walk thru. Then came the stretching. The clouds lifted for the sun to shine and it became ridiculously hot during the stretching period. One of the DBs either, Eric Berry or Kendrick Lewis was singing a song about pedialyte. Maybe they felt some cramps coming on.

The first four weeks of the 2012 season for the Chiefs look tough on paper. Atlanta/San Diego at home and on the road at Buffalo/New Orleans. There are numerous story lines in these first four games.

Atlanta brings Tony Gonzalez back to Arrowhead for the first time since joining the Falcons. Buffalo will be a very tough road test as they are a much improved team. Stevie Johnson revenge? Heading to New Orleans, but what type of team will the Saints field after the bounty suspensions and contract disputes? San Diego is the first AFC West game of the season.
