We are six hours from when the Kansas City Chiefs are officially On The Clock. Here are a few rumors from around the internet to keep you going throughout the day.
NFL.com has a few reports that Eric Fisher has emerged as the leader to be selected first overall, here is a link to one.
Sam Wyche of NFL Network is stationed at the Chiefs facility and says that Kansas City is still fielding calls for the first pick as well as Branden Albert. This is the reason why no announcements of which player they have decided on has been released. They are still waiting, up until the time they pick, to receive every possible offer. If a team gets desperate, the Chiefs could land a large haul in return for either the top pick or Branden Albert.
Ed Werder from ESPN discussed Branden Albert’s situation with John Dorsey. Here is a snippet of what Dorsey had to say: “The guy is a good football player,” Dorsey told ESPN. “I could see him starting. He is a starter. I see that. I’m not giving away good football players. This organization can’t afford to do that.” Here is the rest of the article.
The Chiefs are in a position of power with a talented football player in Branden Albert and the #1 pick, each at their disposal. If Albert is traded, they can select Fisher/Joeckel, or take the BPA and see what you have in Stephenson. They can trade the top pick and gain multiple early round picks in 2013 and2014. The option to keep them both is on the table as is moving the 2 assets. Many different ways tonight could go and nobody really knows yet.

The NFL is a matchup driven league, and everyone knows it. Succeeding in the NFL is about finding players who can win battles against their opponents, and putting those players in position to do just that. If your wide receiver can beat the corner across from him, and the quarterback can get him the ball, you’re going to make a play. If your three technique defensive tackle has the quickness to shoot past the opponent’s offensive guard, you have the chance to disrupt the quarterback or make a stop in the backfield.
This is a simple concept, but finding players to create these mismatches is the challenge that personnel departments face every day. NFL teams spend countless resources and hours trying to identify the players that will pose challenges for the other team.

It seems that a new front-runner has emerged for the 1st overall selection in the 2013 NFL Draft. The 4.2 40-running, 12′ long-jumping phenom looks like an ugly Deion Sanders and looks like an elite prospect that Chiefs fans are wanting. Unfortunately this is too good to be true for Chiefs fans. This year’s NFL Network Super Bowl ad depicted a disguised Deion Sanders trying to become the next rookie phenom.
In a year where there is no elite prospect that is worthy of the first overall selection, a player of Deion Sanders stature would sound exceptional. (more…)

The Chiefs will wrap up their 2012 preseason schedule against the Packers at Lambeau Field Thursday night. With the final cuts due Friday, this game will be the last chance many young players have to impress Kansas City’s coaching staff. As Jason wrote last week, there are some roster spots still up for grabs.
These roster battles won’t dominate the game’s headlines, however. For Chiefs fans, there’s only one goal tonight: don’t get hurt.
