2013 NFL Draft: Biggest Needs for the Chiefs

Thursday, January 31st, 2013

KCCD Staff Writer: Adam Simone

Senior Bowl week is wrapped up, and were slowly approaching draft day. The Kansas City Chiefs have the No. 1 overall pick in this year’s draft, and they have a good chance of adding enough playmakers to make this team competitive in 2013.

Today I’m going to look back on the 2012 season using Pro Football Focus and their premium stats and examine the Chiefs biggest weaknesses. Keep in mind it’s still early and a lot could change once free agency starts in March.

Chiefs vs Chargers: Turnovers, Penalties and Onside Kicks

Monday, October 1st, 2012

This was a game Matt Cassel, among other Chiefs, would love to forget.

We arrived at Arrowhead Stadium early Sunday morning with thoughts of first place in our heads. Our tailgate talked about what we had to do to beat the talented Chargers. As we ate our fish tacos(in tribute of the Whale’s Vagina scene from Anchorman) we mentioned getting Jamaal Charles the ball and working the play-action pass.  Not once did we mention ball security or playing smart, guess we should have. This post has some thoughts on the game, both good and bad, and will highlight a couple plays frame by frame.

The Morning After Pill

This was a bad loss for the Chiefs, but was it as bad as it looked? (Photo: Ed Zurga)

“You are never quite as good as you believe you are, and you are not as bad as you think you are either.”

The old adage rings true for the Chiefs after another disappointing and lopsided season opening loss.

Matt Ryan and the Atlanta Falcons scorched Kansas City and their depleted defense for 369 yards en route to a 40-24 victory at Arrowhead Stadium.

Many jaded fans of the franchise may say that this looks eerily familiar after the Chiefs started off the 2011 season by losing their first two games by a combined score of 89-10.

Fear not. This is still a very dangerous team.   They are not a Super Bowl team, but Kansas City is still a legitimate threat to win the AFC West and get their first playoff victory in twenty years.

This is not the same squad who participated in one of the most ill-conceived training camp ideas ever last August, and Romeo Crennel has this team way more prepared to play football that his predecessor did last season.

Cut down day is tomorrow in the NFL. With most of the league finishing up their preseason schedule tonight, it should be an interesting day on Friday. Who will get cut? Will it be a position of need for the Chiefs? If so, wiho will the Chiefs cut from their 53 man roster to make room?

All types of questions about the roster will be answered this weekend. For more on the Chiefs and who I feel are the last 5 on and the last 5 off, head inside.

Kansas City Chiefs Depth: Is It As Good As We Thought?

Tuesday, August 28th, 2012

Are the Chiefs as deep as we thought they were a month ago?

KCCD Editor: Jason Madson

We heard it the entire off-season. We heard it the early stages of camp. But we aren’t hearing it as much anymore. This is the deepest the Chiefs have been in a long time. It was easy to say. After free agency and the NFL Draft, we had what looked like a very deep roster. One that could survive a few devastating injuries, unlike the 2011 season.  Additions of key backups along the defensive line, secondary and quarterback in free agency. Depth at WR and offensive line in the draft. This team was built for the long haul. Then the injuries started to hit.
